Tiffin, Ohio – October 10, 2009 – The nationally-ranked Heidelberg University volleyball team extended its home match winning streak to 21 today, October 10, with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-17) victory over the College of Mount St. Joseph. The win also pushes Heidelberg’s overall record to 19-4, while the Lions fall to 13-8.
Heidelberg will look to continue its winning ways in Tiffin on Tuesday when it resumes Ohio Athletic Conference play against Baldwin-Wallace College. Prior to the match, Heidelberg will recognize its senior class including setter Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) and middle hitters Amanda Atchison (Frankfort, Ohio / Frankfort Adena) and Amanda Montgomery (Dayton, Ohio / Carroll). The trio will be playing in their final regular season home OAC match.
In the win over MSJ, Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) led three with double-digit kills for the Berg with 17, which ties her career-best for the second-straight outing. Haase added a team-best 21 digs to mark her fifth-consecutive double-double outing. She also had three service aces, along with Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel). Reinhart added 14 digs and seven kills.
Backing Haase was Atchison and Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Magers ran the offense and finished with a match-high 47 assists.
Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) added 20 digs, while Jacki Street (Grafton, Ohio / Midview) had three block assists and Magers had two.
