Haase Picks Up Weekly Honor

Austintown, Ohio – October 12, 2009 – Junior Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) of the No. 23 Heidelberg University volleyball team has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of October 12, 2009.

Last week, Haase helped lead the Berg to a 2-0 week, which included a win over No. 4 Ohio Northern University, 3-2 (10-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 16-14) and a 3-1 victory over the College of Mount St. Joseph (23-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-17). The win over ONU marked the first time that the Berg has topped the Polar Bears since 1986 and it was ONU’s first league loss since 2006. The two wins by Heidelberg helped to extend its home match winning streak to 21 and the Berg stands one win shy of the 20-win plateau at 19-4.

On Tuesday, against ONU, Haase tied her career-best of 17 kills, to go along with 16 digs for a double-double. She finished the match hitting .325. Haase also added a service ace and a block assist.

Against the Lions, Haase once again registered 17 kills and had 21 digs for another double-double. She also served up three aces in the winning effort.

Haase has posted a double-double in her last five-straight outings. For the year, she leads the way with 62 service aces, which also stands in a tie for third in the career record book. She is second on the team with 233 kills, while ranking third in digs with 325.

Heidelberg, under the guidance of 10th-year head coach Jason Miller, will look to continue to extend its home winning streak and its unblemished OAC mark on Tuesday, Oct. 13, when Baldwin-Wallace College visits Seiberling Gymnasium for a 7:00 p.m. match.
