Heidelberg Tops Another Top-10 Team

Tiffin, Ohio - October 23, 2009 - The Heidelberg University volleyball team topped Wittenberg University, 3-2 (11-25, 25-19, 17-25, 27-25, 15-10) in a battle of nationally-ranked foes. The match was the first of the 2009 Heidelberg Quad in Seiberling Gymnasium, on the campus of Heidelberg.

Heidelberg entered the match sitting 17th in the nation and improved to 23-4 on the year. The Tigers, ranked seventh in the country and fell to 19-4 and a 14-match winning streak was snapped in the setback.

The win extended Heidelberg’s home winning streak to 23 matches and it was the third top-10 team that the Berg has defeated this season, with two of those wins coming in Tiffin.

Leading the charge was the freshman duo of Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) and Jacki Street (Grafton, Ohio / Midview). Bevington registered a career-high, and match-high, 17 kills in 37 attempts, with just one error for a .432 attack percentage. Street led the way with a .440 attack percentage courtesy of 13 kills in 25 attempts with just two errors. Not to be outdone, Bevington had five block assists and Street added two.

Making it four with double-digit kills was Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) with 13 and Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) with 10. Reinhart and Haase each had double-doubles, after finishing with 13 and 16 digs, respectively.

Joining the double-double family was Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) with 55 assists and 10 digs.

Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) had a match-high 32 digs.

Heidelberg continues action in the Heidelberg Quad tomorrow against Webster University at 9:00 a.m. and no. 9 Carthage College at approximately 3:00 p.m.
