Tiffin, Ohio – October 24, 2009 – The Heidelberg University volleyball team split their two games in day two of the Heidelberg Quad by winning the first over Webster 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-14) then dropping to Carthage College 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-22). Webster fell to 14-11, while Carthage improved to 24-5 on the season. The loss to Carthage put Heidelberg’s 24 home game winning streak to halt. Overall, Heidelberg went 2-1 in the Heidelberg Quad including a victory over nationally ranked Wittenberg University on Friday.
Heidelberg’s now stands with an overall record of 24-5 on the year.
In the first game against Webster, Heidelberg’s attack game was led by Jacki Street (Grafton, Ohio / Midview) with 13 kills. Backing Street was Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) and Amanda Atchison (Frankfort, Ohio / Frankfort) with 11 kills each. Jackie Reinhart (New Reigel, Ohio / New Reigel) contributed with eight kills along with 15 digs.
Taking charge on offense was All-American setter Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort). Magers dished out 44 assists, to go along with 16 digs and four kills.
Defensively, the back row was led by Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted). Donelan had a team-high 17 digs.
In Heidelberg’s second match verse nationally ranked foe Carthage, Jackie Street once again lead the team on attacks with 12 kills. Jackie Reinhart and Venessa Haase each had nine and eight kills, respectively.
Morgan Magers accumulated 38 assists to go along with five digs and two kills.
Brittany Donelan led the defense with a game-high 28 digs on the day.
Heidelberg is back in action when they travel to Otterbein College Tuesday October 27, at 7:00 p.m.
