Tiffin, Ohio – November 16, 2009 – Senior Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) and junior Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) of the Heidelberg University volleyball team have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Great Lakes Region Team. Joining them on the honorable mention list is sophomore Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) and freshman Jacki Street (Grafton, Ohio / Midview).
The four all-region nods is the most-ever for the Berg, topping its three from 2008. With their nod on the first team, Magers and Donelan are now on the ballot for All-American honors. A season ago, Magers and 2009 graduate Emily Hurlburt were selected as AVAC Honorable Mention All-Americans, which marked the first All-Americans in the history of the volleyball program.
This season, Magers was named to the Ohio Athletic Conference First Team, along with Haase, while Donelan was tabbed the OAC Libero of the year for the second-consecutive season. Magers was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District IV First Teams and Donelan earned a spot on the second team.
Heidelberg won the program’s second OAC Regular Season Title and finished the year at 27-8. Its 27 wins ties for second most all-time. The Berg earned the no. 1 seed in the OAC Tournament and finished runner-ups. Heidelberg claimed the OAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championships and took part in the Great Lakes Regional at Hope College.
