TIFFIN, Ohio -- Heidelberg University Volleyball celebrated the careers of the team's three seniors on Tuesday night inside Seiberling Gymnasium. The Student Princes walked away with the 3-0 win over John Carroll (25-9 25-16, 25-16) and one of the seniors hit a career milestone.
With a kill in the first set, senior Jacki Street (Grafton/Midview) became the eighth player in Heidelberg history to eclipse the 1,000 kill plateau. Street was one of three Student Princes to finish with 10 kills on the evening. Senior Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) and junior Amber Welfle (Norwalk/St. Paul) were the others.
Senior Rachel Ferguson (Brighton, MI) had 26 sets in her final regular season match in Seiberling Gymnasium.
Sophomore Tessa Benanzer (Ft. Loramie) notched 22 digs for the Heidelberg defense.
For the match, Heidelberg attacked at a .327 clip.
Prior to the game, the seniors and their parents were recognized for their dedication to the university. Near the conclusion of the contest, Heidelberg head coach Jason Miller subbed out the three seniors, who drew a loud ovation from the home crowd.
"Marian, Rachel and Jacki have meant a great deal to this program," said Miller. "They have been standouts on the court, in the classroom and in the community. It was nice to recognize them."
With the win, Heidelberg improved to 17-11 and snapped a five-match losing streak. The Student Princes have clinched a berth in the OAC Tournament, but are still fighting for a home court advantage in the quarterfinals.
The team travels to Mount Union for the final conference match of the season on Friday, followed by a pair of neutral site non-conference matches with Depauw and Carnegie Mellon on Saturday.
