TIFFIN, Ohio - For the sixth straight year, Heidelberg Univeristy Volleyball earned a bid into the 64-team NCAA Tournament.
On Thursday, the Student Princes (19-14) will play Calvin College, the host of the tournament. Game time is slated for 8 p.m.
Calvin (28-2), located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is currently ranked second in the nation. The Knights defeated Heidelberg 3-0 earlier this season.
Heidelberg is led by a trio of seniors, Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway), Jacki Street (Grafton/Midview) and Rachel Ferguson (Brighton, MI).
Bevington has registered an even 400 kills on the season. For her career, Bevington has 1,403 kills and 444 blocks, good for second and third place all-time at Heidelberg.
Street has amassed 291 kills this season, the most in a single season of her career. She sits eighth on the all-time kills list with 1,065.
Ferguson, a setter, has 753 assists this season. For her career, she has 2,551 assists and is just the third player to eclipse the 2,500 set plateau.
Junior Amber Welfle (Norwalk/St. Paul) leads the team with a .266 attacking percentage. She ranks ninth on the all-time kills list with 892.
Despite being only a sophomore, libero Tessa Benanzer (Fort Loramie) is 21 digs shy of becoming eighth player to surpass 1,300 digs. This season, Benanzer has 661 digs, the sixth-most in a single season in Heidelberg history. Benanzer's 57 service aces this season are the ninth-most in a season.
"We're very happy to earn an at-large bid," said Jason Miller, in his 13th year as head coach. "We played a very strong schedule this season which has prepared us very well for the postseason."
Of the eight teams selected to the Grand Rapids regional, four are from the Ohio Athletic Conference.
