HIRAM, Ohio - Led by its seniors, Heidelberg University volleyball won a thrilling five-set match at Hiram College on Wednesday evening.
Amber Welfle had a game-high 19 kills and Alexa Frank recorded 29 assists as the Student Princes improved to 5-9 on the season.
Through the first four sets, the match was extraordinarily close. Heidelberg won the first set (25-20) and third set (25-23). The Terriers rebounded to take the second set (21-25) and fourth set (22-25).
The deciding set, however, was all Heidelberg. Head coach Jason Miller's squad sealed the victory with a 15-5 win.
Sarah Parker and Jamie Kluding added to the HU attack. Parker had 13 kills and Kluding had 11.
Defensively, freshman Megan Mills tallied 16 digs. Welfle added 13 digs.
Heidelberg hosts a pair of games on a busy Saturday in Tiffin. They open up OAC action with a match against Wilmington at 1 p.m. After that, they will battle Alma at 3 p.m. Because the game times conflict with the Heidelberg football game at Mayer Field, the volleyball matches will not be streamed online. Live statistics, however, will be available.
