Defiance, OH – Head coach Jason Miller and the 21st ranked Heidelberg volleyball team, following their perfect 4-0 weekend in Cincinnati, traveled west to battle the Defiance Yellow Jackets. With their success from the weekend still emanating, the Berg took down the Yellow Jackets in three straight sets.
Senior Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) again led the Student Princes offensively with 17 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Junior Amber Welfle (Norwalk/St. Paul) helped the Berg offensively, tallying 11 kills of her own. Senior Jacki Street (Grafton/Midview) added seven kills and two digs to the cause.
As a team, Heidelberg boasted a kill percentage of .356 with 50 total kills and just 13 errors for the match.
Senior Rachel Ferguson (Brighton, MI/Brighton) served up 26 sets along with five digs for the Berg, while junior Alexa Frank (Tiffin/Calvert) had a stellar performance posting 20 assists and two digs.
Sophomore Tessa Benanzer (Fort Loramie) was a defensive force collecting a team-high 14 digs.
Heidelberg will travel to Springfield, Ohio on September 14 to compete in the Wittenberg Fall Classic. The Berg is scheduled to face off against Alma College on Friday followed by Washington College and NCAA Regional foe Calvin on Saturday. The Student Princes will begin OAC action when they travel to Wilmington on September 18.
