Marcie Alberts

In her second season as head coach of Heidelberg's women's basketball team is Marcie Alberts.  Alberts finished the 2008-09 season with an overall record of 6-19 and 3-15 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.  In her first year, Alberts coached one All-OAC and an Academic All-OAC honoree.
 
Last spring, Marcie Alberts was named just the eighth head coach in the storied history of the Heidelberg University women’s basketball program that dates back to 1966. Alberts joined Heidelberg following a successful coaching career at Orrville High School in Orrville, Ohio. She amassed a record of 117-45 since 2001 and led the Red Riders to two Ohio Cardinal Conference Championships, along with three district crowns and a regional runner-up finish in 2005. While at Orrville, she was a two-time District Four Coach of the Year, while also garnering OCC Coach of the Year and Inland District Coach of the Year honors in 2004.
 
She is no stranger to northwestern Ohio, as she served as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Toledo prior to her time at Orrville. While an assistant with Toledo, Alberts helped guide the Rockets to the 2001 Mid-American Conference Championship and a subsequent bid to the NCAA Championships.

Alberts is a native of Wooster, Ohio and was a four-year letter winner at the Ohio State University. She earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors and served as a team captain in her senior campaign. Following her time on the court at Ohio State, she played one season with the WNBA’s Cleveland Rockers.

Alberts holds a bachelor of science degree in education from the Ohio State University and a master’s in recreation administration from the University of Toledo. Alberts and her husband, Robert Marsh, have two children, Jordyn (6) and Madison.

 

Stacia Shrider

Stacia Shrider is in her second season on the Heidelberg women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach. Shrider focuses on post development, scheduling and practice planning.
 
A four-year letter winner and two-year captain for the Yellow Jackets, Shrider helped lead Baldwin-Wallace College to 90+ wins and an Elite 8 finish during her playing career. She currently stands eighth on the school’s all-time rebounding list. Shrider earned an Honorable Mention All-OAC nod in 2008 and was also named Academic All-OAC the same year.
 
A native of Marietta, Ohio and a Warren High School grad, Shrider graduated Magna Cum Laude from B-W in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in special education and is pursuing a master’s in education at Heidelberg.
 

Mason Alberts

Assistant Coach

In his second season on the Heidelberg women’s basketball staff is Mason Alberts. Alberts oversees guard development, video breakdown, and film exchange. 
 
Prior to Heidelberg, Alberts accumulated coaching experience at various levels. His coaching career started out as an assistant men’s coach at Thiel College in Pennsylvania for the 2000-01 season. He then moved to the high school ranks and served as a varsity men’s assistant at Wooster High School for a season. 
 
Alberts returned to college basketball when he became the head coach at the University of Akron at Wayne College. He spent five years, 2002-07, at Wayne and coached many all conference players and the conference MVP during his final year. 
 
Before coming to Heidelberg, Alberts was a varsity assistant coach at Orrville High School, where he helped lead the Red Riders to a district championship. 
 
A Wooster, Ohio native and graduate of Wooster High School, Alberts graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in 2000 with a degree in social science and a history minor. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education at the Berg. Alberts resides in Tiffin and has a son, Heath.
