Marcie Alberts
Head Coach
On April 7, 2008 Marcie Alberts was named just the eighth head coach in the storied history of the Heidelberg College women’s basketball program that dates back to 1966.
“We are very excited to have Coach Alberts leading our women’s basketball program,” stated director of athletics Duane Sheldon. “She has been a winner as a player and a coach and brings a tremendous work ethic that our student-athletes will be expected to match.”
Alberts joins Heidelberg following a successful coaching career at Orrville High School in Orrville, Ohio. She amassed a record of 117-45 since 2001 and led the Red Riders to two Ohio Cardinal Conference Championships, along with three district crowns and a regional runner-up finish in 2005. While at Orrville, she was a two-time District Four Coach of the Year, while also garnering OCC Coach of the Year and Inland District Coach of the Year honors in 2004.
Alberts is excited and ready to hit the ground running as the next head coach of Heidelberg. “I am very excited to take on the head coach role at Heidelberg. I have always wanted to get into college basketball. I enjoyed my visit to campus and meeting with the team and after leaving I knew that is the place that I wanted to coach at.”
She is no stranger to northwestern Ohio, as she served as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Toledo prior to her time at Orrville. While an assistant with Toledo, Alberts helped guide the Rockets to the 2001 Mid-American Conference Championship and a subsequent bid to the NCAA Championships.
Alberts is a native of Wooster, Ohio and was a four-year letter winner at the Ohio State University. She earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors and served as a team captain in her senior campaign. Following her time on the court at Ohio State, she played one season with the WNBA’s Cleveland Rockers.
Alberts holds a bachelor of science degree in education from the Ohio State University and a master’s in recreation administration from the University of Toledo. Alberts and her husband, Robert Marsh, have one child, Jordyn (5) and are expecting their second this month.
