The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team, losers of five straight, traveled to Berea, Ohio and the campus of Baldwin Wallace University looking to end their five game slide.
The Yellow Jackets, winners of four straight, held the Student Princes to just 32.8% from the floor, as they went on to win, 94-59.
Senior Jordan Ickes (Wooster/Triway) recorded a season-high in the loss, dropping 16 points and leading the Student Princes.
Juniors Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky/St. Mary’s) and Megan Miller both tallied eight points against the Yellow Jackets. Phillips also recorded one steal, while Miller collected one steal, one rebound and one assists.
Sophomore Paige Ricketts (Mineral City/Tusky Valley) led the team with seven rebounds and four assists. She scored four points in Berea.
Heidelberg and Baldwin Wallace exchanged the lead four times in the first half, reaching a tie eight times. Heading into the locker room at halftime, the Yellow Jackets were on top of the Berg 38-32.
The second half however, would be all BW.
The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to eight at the 16:48 mark in the second half with a pair of Jessica Carpenter free throws.
Just five seconds later, a Miller three pointer would bring the deficit to five, but the Yellow Jackets would go on a 15-1 run, extending their lead to 23 points with 12:32 remaining in the game.
Baldwin Wallace slowly extended their lead until the final buzzer, taking their largest lead of the game with less then a minute remaining.
An Erin Sims (Newark/Newark Catholic) three pointer with under a minute remaining would bring the Yellow Jackets lead to 35, resulting in the 94-59 final.
The Heidelberg women and fifth year head coach Marcie Alberts will continue Ohio Athletic conference action on Saturday, January 19, 2013, when they take on the Purple Raiders of Mount Union University. Tip-off from Alliance, Ohio is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
