Tiffin, Ohio – January 13, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team suffered a 61-54 setback to John Carroll University in an Ohio Athletic Conference match up. The loss drops Heidelberg to 3-12 overall and 2-6 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks improve to 8-6 and are 5-3 against league foes.
It would be a slow pace game for the first five minutes of the game as both teams tried to find the mark. The game was knotted up 4-4 in the 15th minute mark. However the Blue Streaks would go on a 12-0 tear, taking a 16-4 lead.
Both teams would battle back and forth for the remaining of the half, while John Carroll would have a 32-21 lead at intermission.
In the second half with 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Berg would fight back with 11-0 run which included sophomore Lyndsey DaVault (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville) finding senior Stacey Barker (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) for a three-pointer. Barker’s trey would tie the game 38-38.
John Carroll would recapture the lead and would never look back, while winning 61-54.
For Heidelberg, senior Betsy Shrider (Mount Blanchard, Ohio / Riverdale) led the team with a career-high 15 points and racked up seven rebounds. Backing Shrider was junior Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) who finished with 12 points and four boards. Senior Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio / Central Crossing) contributed with seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Off the bench, DaVault had nine points to go along with five rebounds, while junior Kristen McConkey (New Carlisle, Ohio / Tecumseh) chipped in with four points and five boards.
Heidelberg continues its three-game home stand when its hosts Muskingum University, Saturday, January 16 at 3:00 p.m.
