Tiffin, Ohio – February 13, 2010 – Despite leading at halftime, the Heidelberg University women’s basketball team fell to Wilmington College with a score of 57-49. The Berg drops to 5-18 overall and 4-12 in the OAC, while the Lady Quakers improve to 13-10 and are 9-7 against league foes.
In the first half both teams battled back and forth which included three ties and three lead changes.
Heidelberg had its largest lead of 16-11 when freshman Jordan Ickes (Wooster, Ohio / Triway) found junior Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) for a jumper just outside the paint.
The Berg would go into intermission up 24-19.
The Lady Quakers came out strong in the second half and went on a 9-4 run to knot things up at 28-28.
Down by four points, Heidelberg battled back and went a run of its own and tied it 36-36, with 11 minutes left in the game.
Wilmington would recapture the lead and would never look back.
For Heidelberg, Miller led with 14 points to go along with six rebounds. Following Miller was sophomore Lyndsey DaVault (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville) with eight points and also dished out a game-high five assists.
Senior Alyssa Esposito (Brecksville, Ohio / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) scored seven points while senior Stacey Barker (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) and Ickes contributed with six points each.
Leading the way on the glass was senior Betsy Shrider (Mount Blanchard, Ohio / Riverdale) with eight rebounds. Shrider also had a game-high five rejections.
Heidelberg will hit the road for its final two game of the regular season starting with John Carroll University, Wednesday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m.
