'Berg Scores Season-High 77 Points in Win

Tiffin, Ohio – December 12, 2009 –The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team was triumphant over Marietta College with a score of 77-71. The Berg’s 77 points was its highest scoring performance, since February 16, 2008 when they beat Otterbein College 83-74. Heidelberg improves to 2-5 overall, 2-1 in the OAC, while Marietta drops to 2-5 overall, 0-2 in conference play.

 
With a back and forth contest in the first 10 minutes of the first half, Heidelberg would take a commanding 38-29 lead with two minutes left in the half, when junior Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) drained two shots from the free throw line. The Berg would withstand the nine point lead into halftime with the score of 42-33.

Heidelberg would never lose the lead in the second half with its highest of 14 coming with 10 minutes left in the game, when senior Stacey Barker (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) scored from behind the three-point arc, building the Berg’s lead to 60-46.

Despite the Pioneers going on a late 10-3 run, the Berg would clinch the 77-71 victory.

Miller led the way for the Berg with team-highs of 18 points, four blocks, four steals, and tied with eight rebounds. Backing Miller was Barker who dropped 16 points and dished out a game-high six assists.

Senior Betsy Shrider (Mount Blanchard, Ohio / Riverdale) scored 12 points and racked up eight on the boards, while sophomore Lyndsey DaVault (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville) contributed with 10 points.

Heidelberg returns to action when it travels to Baldwin-Wallace College, Wednesday, December 16, at 7:30 p.m.
