Oberlin, Ohio – December 29, 2009 – Heidelberg University women’s basketball junior Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) posted her second double-double on the year, but it was not enough as Oberlin College came away with a 65-62 victory tonight, December 29, 2009, at the Philips Center in Oberlin, Ohio. The setback drops Heidelberg’s overall record to 3-8, while Oberlin improves to 2-8.
Miller hauled in a career-best 15 rebounds, to go along with 19 points to lead the Berg. Backing Miller was Betsy Shrider (Mount Blanchard, Ohio / Riverdale) with 11 rebounds, six points and three blocks. Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio / Central Crossing) added 15 points and five rebounds.
Oberlin led by as many as eight points in the first half. A Miller three-point play with 6:00 to play in the first period gave the Berg its first lead since its opening possession of the game. Heidelberg and Oberlin battled through two ties and two lead changes before Lyndsey DaVault (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville) hit a jumper with 36 seconds before halftime to give the Berg a 36-35 advantage at the break.
After a scoreless two minutes to open the second half, Oberlin found the scoreboard and went on a 17-6 run to take a 12-point lead, 54-42, with 12:17 left in the game. Heidelberg answered with a 14-0 run to take control of the game, 56-54, with just under five minutes remaining.
Heidelberg and Oberlin fought through three ties over the final 4:26 of the game, with the third tie, 62-62, coming at the two minute mark. Over the final two minutes, Oberlin held the Berg scoreless and managed three points to post the 65-62 win.
