'Berg Drops Hard Fought Game at Capital

Bexley, Ohio - January 2, 2010 - The Heidelberg University women's basketball team opened up the New Year with a hard fought 57-43 setback to host Capital University today, January 2. The loss drops the Berg to 1-10 overall and 0-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders improve to 8-3 and 3-2.

Capital scored first following the tip and went on to build an 11-5 advanatge in the first five minutes of action. Back-to-back baskets by Chelsey Calhoun (Sullivan, Ohio / Black River) gave the Berg its first lead of the game, 18-16, with 7:39 on the clock.Aftert three lead changes, Capital held a slim 26-24 lead at the intermission.

The second half started with a back and forth battle. Capital broke open a 38-38 tie with 13:53 on the clock with a 9-0 run to build a nine-point advantage, 47-38, with 8:41 left in the contest. The Crusaders controlled the rest of the game, extending its lead to 14 at the final horn.

Heidelberg was coming off one of its best shooting games of the season, but connected on just 16-of-56 shots (28.6%) today. Capital made 17-of-48 shots (35.4%). Heidelberg and Capital were even on the glass with 40 rebounds apiece.

Leading the way for the Berg was Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Backing MIller was Calhoun with nine points and Emily Giel (Burton, Ohio / Berkshire) with eight points.

Capital was led by Stacy Timmerman with 15 points and five rebounds.
