Wilmington, Ohio – January 22, 2011 – The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team, under the guidance of third-year head coach Marcie Alberts, suffered a 70-51 setback to host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College. With the loss, the Berg drops to 1-16 overall and 0-10 in the OAC, while the Quakers improve to 8-9 overall and 5-5 against league foes.
Despite leading 7-6 early in the first half, Heidelberg was not able to hold off Wilmington’s offensive surge.
For the game, Wilmington outshot Heidelberg, 27-55 (49.1%) to 20-63 (31.7%).
Senior Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) led all scorers with 12 points to go along with a game-high 10 boards. This marks Miller’s eighth double-double of the season. Miller also led on defense with two blocks.
Following Miller was freshman Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky, Ohio / Saint Mary’s) who scored eight points and pocketed a game-high four steals.
Also contributing with six points apiece was sophomore Jordan Ickes (Wooster, Ohio / Triway) and senior Carrie Serrano (Cleveland, Ohio / Rhodes).
Leading two in double figures for Wilmington was Olivia Waters with 11 points, while Allie Meranda scored 10.
Heidelberg seeks its first OAC win as it concludes its three-game road trip when it travels to Baldwin-Wallace College on Wednesday (Jan. 26) at 7:30 p.m.
