Tiffin, Ohio – February 3, 2011 – Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) and Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky, Ohio / St. Mary’s) scored 19 points apiece to lead the Heidelberg University women’s basketball team, but it was not enough to overcome a solid shooting performance by John Carroll University in an 95-75 setback. The loss drops the Berg to 1-19 overall and 0-13 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while JCU improves to 11-7 and 6-7.
Miller has recorded double figures in 18 of Heidelberg’s 19 games on the year, including 17 consecutive. She increased her career total to 1,034, which moves her into sole possession of 11th place all-time. Miller also hauled in five rebounds, to go along with three assists, three steals and a block.
Coming on strong late in the season is Phillips. Her 19 points ties her career-high for the second straight outing. Phillips has seen double in the scoring column in five of the last six games, including three consecutive. She led the team with seven boards, which ties her career-high, along with two steals and one assist.
For the game, John Carroll shot 52.5 percent (31-of-59) from the field, including 50.0 percent (12-of-24) from long range en route to the win. The Blue Streaks found their way to the charity stripe and connected on 21-of-25 attempts. Heidelberg shot just 36.8 percent (28-of-76) from the field and was 6-of-24 from long range (.250). Both sides played even on the glass with 40 rebounds apiece.
Lee Jennings and Melissa Spahar led four players in double figures for the Blue Streaks with 20 points apiece. Spahar hauled in a team-leading nine rebounds.
