Marietta, Ohio – February 12, 2011 – The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team dropped a 59-48 decision on the road at Marietta College this afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference match up. The win improves Marietta to 8-15 overall and 4-12 in the OAC, while the Berg falls to 1-22, 0-16.
Leading the way for the Berg was the duo of Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) and Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky, Ohio / St. Mary’s). The senior Miller finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds to mark her ninth double-double on the season. Phillips, a freshman, backed Miller with 12 points, to go along with five boards. Phillips has recorded double figures in nine of the last 10 games.
Casey Bishop (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville) came off the bench to haul in seven rebounds and scored five points.
Marietta had three in double figures led by Tori Dixon’s 15 points. Mallory Huff led the way on the glass with 15 rebounds and made it a double-double with 10 points.
Heidelberg went on a 7-2 run to close out the first half to cut a 10 point deficit in half at the intermission. Marietta held a 27-22 lead at the break.
In the second half, a Phillips trey followed by a Chelsey Calhoun (Sullivan, Ohio / Black River) jumper pulled the Berg within two points, 41-39, with 7:55 left in the game. Marietta answered with four straight points and the Berg would not get any closer.
For the game, Heidelberg shot just 22.1 percent (15-of-68) from the field compared to 36.2 percent (21-of-58) by Marietta. The host Pioneers held a 57-40 advantage on the glass.
