Tiffin, Ohio – October 21, 2010 – The Heidelberg University community rallied around the upcoming men’s and women’s basketball teams for a preview of this year’s squads. The “HOOPALOOZA” pep rally was hosted in Seiberling Gymnasium.
The event began with men’s head coach Anthony Gholson introducing the members of the Berg cheerleading squad. He then turned the attention to the students, each were given a raffle ticket before the game for a chance to win $300. In order to win the prize the students needed to make a free throw, layup, three point shot and half court shot, nobody won the grand prize but each received a gift card to Rock Creek.
An introduction to the women’s basketball team, given by Danielle Pike, led to a few of the members showing off their fun side. The members danced to a few songs while dressed in some entertaining outfits and umbrellas.
While the women changed, a few more students got a chance at another gift card by spinning on baseball bats and completing two layups. Football player, Andrew Miller, was the first to complete it and win the gift card. The women then showed off a few of their practice drills to the audience.
The men’s team then went on to a dance by the freshman in their warm-ups to a few songs. Then the audience was taken to darkness as a spotlight shined on the members of the team for their introduction. They moved on to showing their practice drills.
The night ended similar to that of last year as Nathan Davis took to the court for the dunk contest. He brought the entire crowd to their feet for a finale that they had been waiting for, as they chanted “BE-RG”.
“We have the most spirited fans in the conference,” Gholson said. "Our teams get really excited for this. They love it.”
