TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team will play its final game of the 2011-12 season Saturday, Feb. 18 when it faces the University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in Alliance, Ohio. Tip-off from the McPherson Academic & Athletic Center is slated for 3 p.m.
The game will be televised on a delay basis by WIVM Ch. 52 in Canton and SportsTime Ohio. The game will show on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m.

Heidelberg (4-20, 1-16 OAC) enters the last game of the season after a 78-66 loss Wednesday at Otterbein University. Despite the loss, sophomore guard Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky/St. Mary’s) poured in a game-high 29 points on a 12-of-21 shooting performance and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore guard Megan Miller (Tiffin/Columbian) chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Molly Schriber (Sydney) added 10 points and seven rebounds. Phillips’ 12 field goals were a career-high and three shy of tying the school single-game record.
Fourth-year head coach Marcie Alberts will likely run a five-guard set with Phillips and sophomores Megan Miller (Tiffin/Columbian) and Emily Giel (Burton/Burkshire), junior Jordan Ickes (Wooster/Triway) and senior Jazmine Shaw (Columbus/Hamilton Township). Phillips scores an OAC-best 19.2 points per game and pulls down 4.0 rpg., is third in the conference with an 85.2. (115-of-135) free throw percentage and is fourth with 51 steals. Miller averages 8.8 ppg. and leads the team with 4.8 rpg. Giel scores 7.0 ppg., leads the team with 35 assists, and is ninth in the league with a 31.2 (39-of-125) three point shooting percentage. Ickes scores 6.0 ppg., has passed for 34 assists and shoots 33.9 (56-of-165) from the field. Shaw averages 2.7 ppg. and 3.1 rpg.
The Berg scores 61.5 ppg., pulls down 34.6 rpg., shoots 37.0 percent overall and is third in the league with 130 three pointers.
Mount Union (23-1, 16-1 OAC) has already clinched the OAC regular season championship following a 65-58 win Wednesday at Baldwin-Wallace College. Rosa LaMattina scored a game-high 19 points, Kori Wiedt had 14 points and Amanda Rose tallied 13 for the Purple Raiders.
Suzi Venet, in her seventh season at Mount Union, will likely start Erin Schmidt, Tierney Allen, LaMattina and Wiedt in the back court and Rose in the middle. LaMattina is fourth in the OAC in scoring (15.2 ppg.), third in assists (95), leads in steals (85) and is sixth with a 50.2 (138-of-275) shooting percentage. Weidt is seventh in the league in scoring (14.0 ppg.) and is seventh with a 48.1 (127-of-264) field goal percentage, including a league-best 46.8 (66-of-141) three point shooting percentage. Rose scores 11.0 ppg., leads the team with 5.2 rpg. and shoots 43.2 (99-of-229) percent overall. Allen scores 6.6 ppg., grabs 3.8 rpg. and shoots 45.5 (60-of-132) percent. Schmidt tallies 6.0 ppg. and 3.5 rpg.
The Purple Raiders lead the conference in scoring (72.9 ppg.), scoring defense (55.2 ppg.), shooting (44.5), three point shooting (37.0) and steals (12.1 spg.) and grab 37.5 rpg.
Mount Union has won 10 straight games in the all-time series, including a 73-67 decision on Jan. 14 in Tiffin in the last meeting. In that contest, Heidelberg had four-double digit scorers, including 17 from Schriber, 15 from Miller, 14 from Phillips and 10 from Ickes. Heidelberg shot a season-high 45.2 (28-of-62) percent overall, but committed 20 turnovers. Rose scored a game-high 20 points for the Purple Raiders to go with six rebounds, and Weidt and Schmidt tallied 16 and 11, respectively.
Saturday’s contest will be the last of the 2011-12 season for Heidelberg after being eliminated from OAC tournament contention.
