Fifth-year head coach Marcie Alberts and the Heidelberg University women's basketball team took on the undefeated Purple Raiders of Mount Union. The Berg ladies battled from behind for most of the game, losing 84-63 at the final buzzer.
Junior Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky/St. Mary's) led the Student Princes scoring with 18 points. Phillips added four rebounds, two assists and one steal in the loss.
Junior Megan Miller (Tiffin/Columbian) and sophomore Paige Ricketts (Mineral City/Tusky Valley) both scored in double figures tallying 15 and 13 points respectively.
Senior Jordan Ickes (Wooster/Triway) led the Berg on the boards, pulling in nine rebounds to accompany her five points. Ickes also led the Student Princes in assists with three, while shooting a perfect three for three from the charity stripe.
As a team, the Berg shot 64.3% from the free throw line.
Rosa LaMattina led the Purple Raiders in scoring with 26.
The Heidelberg women return to the hardwood on Wednesday, December 12, when they travel to play the Terriers of Hiram College. The Heidelberg ladies are 20-5 against the Terriers all-time. Tip off from Hiram is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
