Heidelberg Women's Basketball Ranks Fourth In The Nation Academically

The Heidelberg College women’s basketball team, guided by head coach Karen McConnell, not only succeeded on the hardwood this past year, but also in the classroom. The women ranked a team-best fourth in the nation on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll for Division III with an overall team grade point average (GPA) of 3.571 — just less than a tenth of a point away from first. Heidelberg’s fourth tops its previous best of fifth in 2000-01.

"The players take a great deal of pride in their success in the classroom,” stated McConnell. “This is a very driven group, and I am very proud of their accomplishment. These ladies truly are student-athletes."

Since 1996, the WBCA has recognized outstanding academic performance through its Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll. The award distinguishes teams across the nation that have the highest GPA’s for the 2006-07 season based upon WBCA-member coaches nominations. The top teams in each of the five WBCA collegiate divisions, NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA and JC/CC, are recognized through this award. Team GPA’s are determined by the total number of quality points divided by the total number of hours attempted by the team.

On the court last season, the Berg finished with a 12-13 overall record. Heidelberg claimed the championship at both the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament and the Heidelberg Holiday Alumni Classic.
