'Berg Streaks by John Carroll for the Win

By a score of 66-49 the Heidelberg College women’s basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference foe John Carroll University to end a two-game losing streak. The win brings Heidelberg’s record up to 6-6 for the season, 2-4 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks stand at 7-6 on the year, 2-4 in OAC action.
 
John Carroll jumped out to an early lead in the early part of the first half, but four free throw shots and a lay-up by Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) brought Heidelberg out in front, 14-11. The score continued to flip-flop until the Blue Streaks own Lianna Jennings tossed in a free throw with three seconds left to put her team ahead 32-31 right before the horn.
 
Five minutes into the second half, Heidelberg finally began to pull away as Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) netted a jumper and a corresponding free throw shot putting the Berg up 41-38. The ladies never lost the lead again as the second ticked off the clock. To cap things off, Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) sunk in three straight jumpers at the end of the game to further ensure a win for the Tricolor.
 
Overall for Heidelberg, Campbell led her team with a double-double on the night, 20 points and 10 rebounds, while going 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Skolnicki followed up with 12 points of her own and a team-high three assists, while Miller matched Campbell in rebounds.
 
For the Blue Streaks, Jennings led her team offensively with 17 points. Rachael Price contributed 12 points and piloted the defense with five rebounds.
 
Heidelberg returns to action Saturday, January 12 at 3 p.m. against fellow OAC member Otterbein. The game will be held in Seiberling Gymnasium, the Berg’s home court.
