Women's Basketball Victorious at Oberlin
The Heidelberg College women’s basketball team improved to 9-7 on the year with a 69-58 non-conference victory at Oberlin College on Martin Luther King, Jr. day. The Berg trailed 32-30 at halftime, but utilized a strong second half to earn the victory. The loss drops Oberlin to 2-13 on the season.
A Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) jumper with 18:32 left in the game knotted the score at 34-34 and ignited an 11-4 run by the Berg to take control of the contest. During Heidelberg’s spurt, Maureen Hunter (Toledo, Ohio / Notre Dame), Skolnicki and Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) each sank a three-pointer.
Oberlin pulled within one point, 50-49, but Campbell responded with three-straight points to retain Heidelberg’s control of the scoreboard. The Berg built its lead to as many as 13 points in the contest.
The first half featured a back and forth battle that saw Oberlin build an eight point lead, 27-19, with 5:18 left in the period. Back-to-back three-pointers from Hunter and Campbell pulled Heidelberg within striking distance over the final four minutes of the opening half.
Leading three players in double figures was Campbell with 20 points and 12 rebounds, marking her fourth double-double on the season. Hunter came off the bench to finish with 18 points, all from long range, while Skolnicki added 16 points and nine rebounds.
Heidelberg resumes Ohio Athletic Conference action Saturday when it travels to southern Ohio to face Wilmington College. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 p.m.
