Campbell Nets Double-Double Versus ONU

Senior guard Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) picked up her sixth double-double on the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Heidelberg College women’s basketball team dropped a hard-fought 65-57 battle to Ohio Athletic Conference leader Ohio Northern University tonight in Seiberling Gymnasium, on the campus of Heidelberg.

The win extends ONU’s overall record to 15-3 and its league record to 10-1, while the Berg falls to an even .500 at 9-9 overall and 4-7 in the OAC.

Ohio Northern led by nine, 55-48, with 2:24 on the clock. Two free throws by Campbell pulled the Berg within three points with just under a minute to play in the contest. The Polar Bears closed out the game hitting 7-of-8 from the charity stripe to pick up the win. Campbell was integral in Heidelberg’s push late in the contest, scoring seven of Heidelberg’s final nine points in the contest.

Heidelberg’s only lead of the game was a 4-2 advantage following a Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio / Central Crossing) lay up 1:15 into the game. The Polar Bears stretched its first half advantage to as many as 10 points, 26-16, with 7:29 on the clock before heading into the locker room up 32-26.

For the game, Ohio Northern picked up 21 points on a 21-for-25 shooting day at the free throw line compared to an 8-for-10 outing for Heidelberg. Of ONU’s 25 free throws attempted, 18 came in the second half alone. For the game, the Berg shot .390 percent (23-of-59) from the field, while ONU shot .400 (20-of-50).

Joining Campbell in double figures was Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) with a team-high 18 points and Richard with 11. Jessica Jennette (LaRue, Ohio / Elgin) provided a solid force on the glass, coming off the bench to grab a career-high seven rebounds, to go along with five points.

Leading three in double digits for the visitors was Erin Brand with a game-high 17 points followed by Jenny Markle and Leah Zimmerman with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Brand also led the way on the boards with six rebounds.

Heidelberg returns to action at Mount Union College on Saturday. Tip-off with the Purple Raiders is slated for 3:00 p.m. Following Saturday’s outing, Heidelberg will return to Tiffin Feb. 5 when it entertains Baldwin-Wallace College at 7:30 p.m.
