Slow Start Plays a Factor in Loss at Mount Union

The Heidelberg College women’s basketball team suffered a slow start following the tip-off and could not recover in a 48-32 setback at Mount Union College today. The loss drops Heidelberg to 9-10 overall and 4-8 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Purple Raiders improve to 8-11 overall and 5-7 in league action.

Heidelberg shot just .167 percent (5-of-30) from the field in the opening half which resulted in a season-low 13 points for a half. Mount Union scored first, but the Berg defense wrecked havoc and allowed just nine field goals to trail 20-13 at the intermission.

Hollie Knott (Concord, Ohio / Riverside) scored on Heidelberg’s first possession of the second half to pull the Berg within five points, 20-15. Mount Union responded with 9-0 run to hold a 14-point advantage, 29-15, with 13:31 to play in the game. The Purple Raiders went on to extend its lead to as many as 20 points before posting a 48-32 win.

Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) led the way for Heidelberg with 11 points, while Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) added 10 points. The duo of Campbell and Skolnicki combined to grab 14 rebounds on the day.

The Berg will return to action against Baldwin-Wallace on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Tip-off in Seiberling Gymnasium is slated for 7:30 p.m.
