Heidelberg Ends Losing Streak
The Heidelberg College women’s basketball team snapped a six game slide with a win over Otterbein College, 83-74. The victory brings the Berg up to 10-13 on the year, 5-11 in Ohio Athletic Conference action, while Otterbein falls to 12-11 overall, 8-8 in the OAC.
The first half saw a back and forth push for the lead, with Heidelberg pulling ahead in the last two minutes thanks to a solid scoring run and four points contributed by Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde). Miller and teammate Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana) each sunk 11 points in the first, the first of six ’Berg players to hit double-digits during the game.
In the second half, the scoring remained close, but Heidelberg capitalized on its shooting groove late and tossed in 13 points to the Cardinals five to secure the lead. Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) shot in seven points in the last three minutes of play alone to help lead her team to victory.
Overall, Campbell led the team with 18 points and four steals followed by Miller with 15, while Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio / Central Crossing) and Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) each contributed 13. Harrigan and Maureen Hunter (Toledo, Ohio / Notre Dame) capped off the day with 11 points apiece. Skolnicki also contributed three blocks, while tying Richard and Miller with seven boards each.
Laura Roth’s career-high 30 points, team-high seven assists, and school record setting eight three-pointers just could not salvage the Cardinals attempt at a win. Though Sara Fee had a reason to celebrate, having hit her 1,000th career point during the contest and tossing in 17 points. Katy Miller led Otterbein with 11 rebounds.
Heidelberg returns to actions on Wednesday, February 20, at home against Capital at 7:30 p.m.
