Women's Basketball to Compete in OAC Tournament

The Heidelberg College women’s basketball team, led by head coach Karen McConnell, assistant Sean Pinkerton, and student assistant coach Ashley Hawley, will be making its 23rd appearance at the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament since it began in 1985 on Tuesday, February 26. The team has accumulated a record of 11-14 during the season, 6-14 in the OAC.

Heidelberg enters the quarterfinals as the eighth seed and will face off against the first seeded Yellow Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace in Berea, Ohio at 7:30 p.m. B-W’s record currently stands at 23-2 on the year, 16-2 in the OAC and it is ranked 13th in the nation according to D3hoops.com and 10th in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association poll.

During its 2007-08 campaign, Heidelberg has had two players hit 1,000 points for their career. Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) hit the milestone on November 18, 2007 versus Eastern College at the Swarthmore Tip-Off Tournament, while Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) dropped in her 1,000th point on February 5 at home against B-W.

Skolnicki leads the Berg for the season with 14.1 points a game, while Campbell follows close behind with 13.0. Campbell also is tops on the team with 51 steals and 7.1 boards a game. Maureen Hunter (Toledo, Ohio / Notre Dame) has dished out 63 assists this season and reached up for 16 blocks.

Also adding to Heidelberg’s solid play on the floor are Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio / Central Crossing) and Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde). Richard has started 22 games, while appearing in 24 and contributes 7.1 points a game and grabs 4.1 rebounds. Meanwhile, Miller has started all 25 of Heidelberg’s games in her inaugural season in the red, orange, and black and stands second on the team with 5.9 boards a contest. Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana) has also been an integral part of the line up this season, supplying 36 assists, 21 steals, and 32 three-pointers.
