Marcie Alberts Named Head Women's Basketball Coach
Director of athletics Duane Sheldon is pleased to announce that Marcie Alberts has been named head women’s basketball coach at Heidelberg College. Alberts is just the eighth head coach in the storied history of the program that dates back to 1966.
“We are very excited to have Coach Alberts leading our women’s basketball program,” stated Sheldon. “She has been a winner as a player and a coach and brings a tremendous work ethic that our student-athletes will be expected to match.”
Alberts joins Heidelberg following a successful coaching career at Orrville High School in Orrville, Ohio. She amassed a record of 117-45 since 2001 and led the Red Riders to two Ohio Cardinal Conference Championships, along with three district crowns and a regional runner-up finish in 2005. While at Orrville, she was a two-time District Four Coach of the Year, while also garnering OCC Coach of the Year and Inland District Coach of the Year honors in 2004.
Alberts is excited and ready to hit the ground running as the next head coach of Heidelberg. “I am very excited to take on the head coach role at Heidelberg. I have always wanted to get into college basketball. I enjoyed my visit to campus and meeting with the team and after leaving I knew that is the place that I wanted to coach at."
She is no stranger to northwestern Ohio, as she served as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Toledo prior to her time at Orrville. While an assistant with Toledo, Alberts helped guide the Rockets to the 2001 Mid-American Conference Championship and a subsequent bid to the NCAA Championships.
Alberts is a native of Wooster, Ohio and was a four-year letter winner at the Ohio State University. She earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors and served as a team captain in her senior campaign. Following her time on the court at Ohio State, she played one season with the WNBA’s Cleveland Rockers.
Alberts holds a bachelor of science degree in education from the Ohio State University and a master’s in recreation administration from the University of Toledo. Alberts and her husband, Robert Marsh, have one child, Jordyn (5) and are expecting their second this month.
Heidelberg is a liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students located in Tiffin, Ohio and is a member of the 10-team Ohio Athletic Conference.
“The Ohio Athletic Conference is a tremendous conference across the board, especially in women’s basketball,” stated Alberts. “We will hit the ground running. It is important that the players and myself get on the same page and to make sure that we are prepared to take on the challenges of the OAC next season. We will set our goals high and continually strive to compete for a conference championship.”
