Harrigan Trey Forces OT, but 'Berg Cannot Hang On

Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana) connected from long range with six seconds on the clock to erase a 12-point Heidelberg University deficit and force overtime with host John Carroll University in an Ohio Athletic Conference women’s basketball match up. The Blue Streaks went on to outscore the Berg 18-7 in the extra stanza to post a 77-66 win.
 
The win improves the Blue Streaks to 12-10 overall and 7-8 in the OAC, while the Berg stands at 6-16 and 3-12.
 
John Carroll jumped out to an 11-point advantage, 24-13, with 6:50 on the clock in the first half. Heidelberg closed out the half outscoring JCU 12-4 to pull within three, 28-25, at the break.
 
The second half was nearly a repeat of the first, as John Carroll took a 12-point lead, 46-34, at the midway point of the stanza. Heidelberg did not quit and pulled within two points, 53-51, following a Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) lay up with 3:42 left in regulation. JCU answered and pushed its advantage to seven, 58-51, with 1:07 on the clock. Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) hit a three-pointer to come within two points, 58-56, with 15 ticks left. JCU’s Racheal Price hit the front end of a double bonus foul, opening the door for Harrigan’s long range game-tying three.
 
In overtime John Carroll scored first and never looked back.
 
Skolnicki led the way with a game-high 20 points, to go along with nine rebounds and two blocks. Stacey Barker (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) and Sarah Kesse (Cincinnati, Ohio / Colerain) each added nine boards apiece. Harrigan hit three from long range to highlight her 13 points, while Miller added 11 points off the bench.
 
Leading the Blue Streaks was Caitlin Sureck with a double-double, finishing with 19 points and 10 boards.
