Otterbein Tops the Berg on Senior Day

The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team suffered a 70-61 setback to Otterbein College today, February 14, in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest in Seiberling Gymnasium, on the campus of Heidelberg.
 
The win improves Otterbein to 12-11 on the year and 8-8 in the OAC, while the Berg stands at 6-17 overall and 3-13. Prior to the start of the game Heidelberg recognized its five seniors for their contributions to the program over the course of the last four years. Playing in their last regular season home game was Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview), Ashley Cornell (Lansing, Ill. / Thornton Fractional South), Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana), Ashley Hawley (Sullivan, Ohio / Black River) and Sarah Kesse (Cincinnati, Ohio / Colerain).
 
In the first half neither team led by more than six points and there was four ties. With the game tied at 24-24 Otterbein outscored the Berg 8-2 over the final 3:38 to hold a 32-26 advantage at the intermission.
 
Heidelberg battled back in the second half and tied the game at 42-42 following a Stacey Barker (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) jumper. Harrigan followed suit and gave the Berg a 44-42 advantage on its next trip down the floor. Heidelberg’s lead was short lived as Otterbein’s Laura Roth answered with a trey that would give the Cardinals the lead for good.
 
Otterbein extended its lead to as many as 13, but Heidelberg responded and cut its deficit to five points, 66-61, with 1:24 left in the game. The Berg was silent from the field for the remainder of the contest, while the Cardinals sank 4-of-6 free throws for the win.
 
For the game, Otterbein shot 46.7 percent (28-of-50) from the field, compared to a 34.8 clip (24-of-69) by the Berg. The Cardinals held a slim 45-42 advantage on the boards. Heidelberg forced Otterbein into 19 turnovers, pocketing 12 steals in the process led by five from Harrigan.
 
Skolnicki and Harrigan shared scoring honors with 18 points apiece. Harrigan also added five rebounds and three assists, while Skolnicki had two rebounds and two assists. Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio /Central Crossing) had a game-high 12 boards.
 
Otterbein was led by Katy Miller’s 16 points and eight rebounds.
