Capital too much for the Berg
The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team suffered an 84-52 setback to Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest on the campus of Capital.
The win improves the Crusaders to 18-5 on the year and 14-3 in the OAC, while the Berg stands at 6-18 overall and 3-14.
In the first half Capital’s largest lead was 21 points with 8:12 left until the half. Heidelberg battled to get the deficit down to 14 points, but that was as close as they could get before the intermission. Capital went on to hold a 44-26 lead at the break.
The second half was all Capital as they extended their lead to as large as 35 points. The Berg remained silent from the field in the second half, scoring just 26 points once again, while allowing 40.
For the game, Capital shot 48.3 percent (28-of-58) from the field, compared to a 30.5 clip (18-of-59) by the Berg. The Crusaders held a large 52-29 advantage on the boards. Heidelberg forced Otterbein into 20 turnovers, pocketing eight steals in the process.
Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) led the Berg in scoring with 14 points while adding two rebounds. Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio /Central Crossing) followed with eight points and two rebounds. Sarah Kesse (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Colerain) led the Berg rebounding with seven boards while adding four points and a block.
Capital was led by Kristen Richardson with 21 points and six rebounds followed by Daniele Sanna with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
