Shooting Woes Cost The Berg
The Heidelberg College women’s basketball team shot just 35.2 percent (19-of-54) from the field en route to an 82-61 setback to Notre Dame College (Ohio) in the championship game of the AC Tip-Off Classic hosted by Adrian College in Adrian, Mich. The win improves Notre Dame to 2-0, while the Berg stands at 1-1.
Notre Dame found success in hitting the basket, hitting 51.8 percent (29-of-56) of its attempts in the win. Notre Dame outshot the Berg 61.5 percent (16-of-26) to 32.1 percent (9-of-28) in the first half alone to build a 46-23 advantage at the intermission.
Despite its large deficit the Berg came out in the second half looking to make up some ground. Two Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) free throws with 6:56 to play in the game cut Notre Dame’s lead to 15 points, 66-51, but Notre Dame responded with six-straight points to push its lead back to 21, 72-51.
Heidelberg was held to just a Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana) three-pointer in the final three minutes of the contest allowing Notre Dame to post the 82-61 victory.
Leading the way for Heidelberg was Skolnicki with a game-high 18 points, to go along with five rebounds and two assists.Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) had a team-high nine rebounds and also added nine points and four assists. Also registering nine points was Sarah Kesse (Cinncinati, Ohio / Colerain).
Heidelberg, under the guidance of first-year head coach Marcie Alberts, remains on the road for two more contests. The Berg travels south to Transylvania University for a two-game swing beginning Friday, Nov. 21 against host Transylvania at 8:00 p.m.
