Hanover Tops the Berg
The Heidelberg College women’s basketball team suffered a 66-46 setback to Hanover College at the 2008 Sodexho Classic hosted by Transylvania College in Lexington, Ky. The Berg now stands at 1-3 overall, while Hanover improves to 2-0.
Heidelberg’s Betsy Shrider (Mount Blanchard, Ohio / Riverdale) had a tip in to cut the Berg’s deficit to four, 14-10, with 10:59 on the clock in the opening half. Hanover went on to outscore the Berg 15-3 over the next six minutes to build a 29-13 lead and went on to hold a 36-19 advantage at the break.
Hanover extended its lead to as many as 28 points, 49-21, less than five minutes into the second half. Heidelberg pulled within 17, 57-40, following a Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio / Central Crossing) jumper with eight minutes to play, but could not get any closer falling 66-46.
For the game Heidelberg shot 29.8 percent (17-of-57), while Hanover hit a 42.9 clip (24-for-56). Hanover out rebounded the Berg 45-37.
Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) recorded double figures for the second-straight game and led the Berg with 12 points and seven rebounds. Shrider came off the bench to pick up career-highs in points and rebounds, with nine and six, respectively.
Heidelberg faces a week off before opening its 2008-09 home slate against Oberlin College in a non-conference game at Seiberling Gymnasium, on the campus of Heidelberg.
