Miller's Career Day Leads to 'Berg Victory

Paced by a career-high 20 points from sophomore Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde), the Heidelberg College women’s basketball team posted a 72-57 victory over the University of Northwestern Ohio in the consolation game of the 2008 Hoops for Hope Bishop Classic. The classic is hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
 
Heidelberg enters the New Year on a high note following the win and boasts an overall mark of 4-7, while the Racers stand at 6-7.
 
Miller connected on 8-of-9 shots from the floor and added a 4-for-4 outing from the charity stripe. She added six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.
 
Backing Miller was Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana) with 17 points, including five treys. Harrigan set up four scores to lead the way for the Berg. Rounding out three in double figures was Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview). Skolnicki came off the bench to score 11 points and grabbed seven boards.
 
Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio / Central Crossing) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and point guard Stacey Barker (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) hauled in six.
 
As a team, Heidelberg shot 43.5 percent (27-of-62) from the field, while adding a solid defensive presence that held the Racers to a 27.0 clip (17-of-63). The Berg held a commanding advantage on the glass, 51-35.
 
Heidelberg broke a 15-15 tie in the first half with an 11-0 run to pull ahead, 23-15, with 6:19 to play before the intermission. The Racers battled back to pull within one point, 24-23, on an Amanda Francis layup with just over three minutes in the half. Harrigan quieted the comeback with back-to-back from long range to give Heidelberg an eight point advantage at the break, 34-26.
 
The Berg continued its solid shooting into the second half and built a 20-point advantage, 57-37, within the first 10 minutes. The double digit lead was maintained for the remainder of the game, as the Racers could only get as close as 12 points.
 
Heidelberg resumes Ohio Athletic Conference action on Saturday, January 3 with Baldwin-Wallace College. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 p.m. in Tiffin.
