Cardinals Second Half Effort Downs the Berg

Westerville, Ohio – January 27, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team suffered a 74-53 setback to Otterbein College in an Ohio Athletic Conference match up. The loss drops Heidelberg to 4-14 overall and 3-8 in the OAC, while the Cardinals improve to 8-10 and are 5-6 against league foes.
 
Otterbein would be up as much as six points with eight minutes left before halftime. However, Heidelberg would battle back and would take a commanding 34-27 lead, when senior Stacey Barker (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) found Lyndsey DaVault (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville) for a three-pointer as time expired in the first half.
 
In the second half, the Cardinals came out very strong and would take a 39-37 lead within five minutes and would never look back.
 
For Heidelberg, DaVault led the team with 12 points, while shooting 4-6 behind the three-point arc. Senior Alyssa Esposito (Brecksville, Ohio / Brecksville-Broadview Heights), junior Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde), and junior Kristen McConkey (New Carlisle, Ohio / Tecumseh) would each have six points.. Sophomore Chelsey Calhoun (Ashland, Ohio / Black River) scored a career-high five points to go along with four rebounds.
 
Barker, senior Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio / Central Crossing), senior Betsy Shrider (Mount Blanchard, Ohio / Riverdale), and freshman Jordan Ickes (Wooster, Ohio /Triway) would each contribute with four points. 
 
Shrider led the team on the glass with six boards. Backing Shrider and alongside Calhoun with four rebounds was Esposito, Richard, Miller, and McConkey.
 
Heidelberg looks to get back in the win column when its hosts Ohio Northern University, Saturday, January 30 at 3:00 p.m.
