Solid Shooting Leads to Road Win
Marietta, Ohio – February 7, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team connected on 12 three-pointers en route to an 81-62 victory over Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference match up. The game was originally slated to be played yesterday, Feb. 6, but was rescheduled due to the weather. The win improved Heidelberg to 5-16 overall and 4-10 in the OAC, while Marietta falls to 3-18, 1-13.
Heidelberg shot a season-best .509 (28-of-59) from the field, including another season-high of .600 from long range. The contingent of Alyssa Esposito (Brecksville, Ohio / Brecksville-Broadview Heights),Lyndsey DaVault (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville), Stacey Barker (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City), Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio / Central Crossing) and Jordan Ickes (Wooster, Ohio / Triway) combined to connect on 12-of-20 three-pointers. Leading the way was Esposito with four to contribute to her career-high 14 points. DaVault had nine points from long range, while Barker and Richard each had two three-pointers.
Finishing with a double-double was Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde). Miller led the Berg with 19 points and 12 rebounds, to go along with five assists. Richard finished with 15 points and five boards to join Esposito and Miller in double figures.
After trading the lead early on in the contest, Esposito scored eight-straight ‘Berg points followed by a DaVault three to give Heidelberg the lead for good with 13:32 left in the first half.
In the second half, Heidelberg went on an early 8-0 run to extend its advantage to 13 points, 47-34, following a Barker trey, with 15:44 left in the contest. Marietta pulled within five points, 55-50, with 11:17 on the clock, but Heidelberg responded with a 7-0 run to push its lead to double-digits for the remainder of the game.
