CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Heidelberg men’s and women’s cross country squads battle all three divisions and a few NAIA opponents at the All-Ohio meet hosted by Cedarville University on Friday, October 4. Humidity and an overcast sky made for troublesome race conditions for the Berg as the women claimed 19th as a unit, followed by the men’s 36th place performance.
On the women’s side, it was standout senior Sophie Goobic who clocked the fastest time for the Berg women. Goobic finished the women’s 6k course with a time of 23:11.70. Goobic finished 23rd overall out of the field of 283 competitors.
Goobic finished with the second best women’s time in the Ohio Athletic Conference as Brooke Mathie from the University of Mount Union finished 14th overall. Mathie’s finished marks the first time this season that Goobic has finished behind a conference opponent.
Freshman Allie Dresser finished 97th overall and second on the team with a time of 24:48.37. Fellow freshman Shawnda Henault also finished below the 25:00 mark with a time of 24:57.79.
Freshman Dani Blum finished well for the Berg as she clocked a time of 25:06.08, which was good enough for 116th place. Sophomore Lorin Conti, freshman Hayley Cochran and sophomore Kristen Fett rounded out the Berg ladies performance in Cedarville by clocking a time of 26:07.35, 26:27.83 and 27:58.96 respectively.
The Heidelberg men had a rough outing on the 8k course that sprawled across the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course. Sophomore Brad Palocko led the Berg men in Cedarville with a time of 28:30.22, which placed him 167th.
John Webb finished 184th overall by clocking a time of 28:57.87 followed by sophomore who finished in a time of 30:02.88. The Berg men’s performance at All-Ohio was rounded out by freshmen Jesse Rudolph and De Churchya and sophomores Jon Clinard and Matt Tussing.
The freshmen duo finished in a time of 30:20.48 and 31:19.55 respectively whole the sophomore tandem clocked times of 30:23.08 and 30:47.41 respectively.
The Heidelberg men and women will take a week off to prepare for the Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday, October 19. The Inter-Regional Rumble will be hosted by the Cardinals of Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. Action from Oberlin is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. with the running of the women’s 6k run. The men’s 8k is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
