Westerville, Ohio – October 30, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s cross country team raced to eighth place at the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Otterbein University on Oct. 30.
Heidelberg finished the day with 216 points. Taking home the team title was Ohio Northern University (29) followed by Baldwin-Wallace College (63) and the host Cardinals (63). Wilmington College (107) and the University of Mount Union (165) rounded out the top-five. John Carroll University (175) and Marietta College (190) finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Closing out the standings was Capital University (218) and Muskingum University (295).
Pacing Heidelberg was the trio of freshmen Jocelyn Staugler (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) and Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y. / Hugh C. Williams), as well as sophomore Bobbi Custer (Woodstock, Ohio / Triad).
Staugler led the way with a 32nd place finish with a time of 24:19.3. Following Staugler closely in 33rd was Custer. Custer crossed the finish line in a time of 24.19.3 as well. Goobic finished in 38th after clocking a time of 24:25.8.
Closing out the scoring for Heidelberg was Macy McFarland (Huron, Ohio / Huron) and Leah Boileau (Dearborn, Mich. / Edsel B. Ford). McFarland finished in 26:30.6 (91st), while Boileau clocked a 27:30.6 (111th).
Next up is the Great Lakes Regional Nov. 13 at Hope College in Holland, Mich.
