Three Student Princes Named NWCA Scholar Athletes

NWCA Scholar Athletes

Senior Andy Lovins (Clinton Township, MI./Lake Shore) along with juniors Jeremy Stepp (Cincinnati/Princeton) and Chris Osborne (McComb) have been named National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Americans.

A NWCA Scholar Athlete is a wrestler who placed sixth or better at their respective Regional tournament and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. If the potential selection did not place sixth or higher at their Regional, they must have a winning percentage of 67% or higher to be eligible.

Lovins claimed All-American status over the weekend at the 2013 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships earning fifth place in the 197-pound weight class. Being named a NWCA Scholar Athlete is another accolade on a long list of accomplishments for Andy.

Some of Lovins accomplishments include: two-time national qualifier, 2013 Mideast Regional champion, 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference champion and three-time Academic All-American. Andy has also been named to the Dean’s List every semester at the Berg.

This marks the first Academic All-American honor for Stepp. Jeremy was a mainstay for the Student Princes’ at 174-pounds and wrestled to a sixth place finish at the Mideast Regional. Stepp suffered only one loss in the OAC to two-time National Champion Kyle Kwiat of Ohio Northern.

Osborne is receiving his first Academic All-American selection as well. Chris started at 141-pounds for the Berg and was undefeated in OAC competition but did not place at the 2013 Mideast Regional. Osborne finished the 2012-13 season with an overall record of 27-9.
