New Concord, Ohio – January 5, 2010 – The Heidelberg University wrestling team improved to 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference following a 45-10 victory over host Muskingum University. Heidelberg, ranked 21st in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Brute/Adidas National Poll, stands at 5-3 on the year, while Muskingum is 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.
Heidelberg’s Jake Weisman (Bexley, Ohio / Bexley) opened the dual with a fall in 6:40 at 125 pounds. Muskingum answered with a major decision at 133 pounds, but Heidelberg went on win the next five weight classes en route to the win.
Picking up a win during the five-bout winning streak was Brandon Burkett (Westerville, Ohio / North) (141), Andrew Johnson (Weston, Ohio / Ostego) (149), no. 4 ranked Zach Mizer (Canton, Ohio / Perry) (157), Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) (165) and Dan Jonhenry (Berea, Ohio /Berea) (174). Curley registered the second ’Berg fall on the night, while Johnson and Mizer had decisions. Burkett and Jonhenry earned a victory via a forfeit by the Muskies.
Muskingum gained its final six points by way of a double forfeit at 184 pounds. Both Muskingum and Heidelberg forfeited awarding six points to each team.
The night closed out with Andrew Lovins (Clinton Township, Mich. / Lake Shore) and Brad Rice (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson) bumping up weight classes and not faltering. Lovins had a decision, while Rice pinned his opponent in 1:23.
