Tiffin, Ohio – February 19, 2010 - On Saturday, the Heidelberg University wrestling team will look to defend its four-straight Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championships. Mount Union College will host the 2010 OAC Wrestling Tournament at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex, on the campus of Mount Union, in Alliance, Ohio.
Wrestling begins at 10:00 a.m. Champions of each bracket and an at-large selection advance to the 2010 NCA Division III Wrestling Championships March 5-6 at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Admission for the event is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for students. OAC students are admitted free with ID and OAC Lifetime passes will be honored.
Heidelberg, ranked 25th in the nation according to the National Wrestling Coaches Association, finished the regular season as the runner-up in the league standings. Ohio Northern University topped the field followed by no. 30 Mount Union. John Carroll University and Muskingum University tied for fourth, while Baldwin-Wallace College and Wilmington College shared sixth place.
A season ago, Heidelberg was represented in the finals in all 10 weight classes and produced five champions. Returning from the list of winners is 165 pound junior Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood).
Curley is joined by runner-up and the 2009 at-large selection Zach Mizer (Canton, Ohio / Perry) at 157 pounds, as well as Brad Rice (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson). Rice took home third place last year in the 197 pound bracket and Mizer was a champion at 149 pounds in 2008.
Also returning is two-time placer Ed Bizorik (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue) at 185 pounds. In 2009 Bizorik stood fourth.
Returning from injury is two-time placer Dan Jonhenry (Berea, Ohio / Berea). As a freshman, in 2006, Jonhenry was runner-up at 184 pounds and a year later took fourth in the 174 pound weight class. He will look to place once again at 174 pounds.
