Wheaton, Ill. – January 29, 2011 – Senior Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) paced three placers for the Heidelberg University wrestling team at the 2010 Pete Wilson Wheaton Invitational hosted by Wheaton College. Heidelberg University finished 12th out of 32 schools with a point total of 55.5.
The Lindenwood University took the team title with 131.0 points followed by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with 109.5 points. Rounding out the top-five schools were the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (102.5), University of Indianapolis (100.5), the University of Mount Union (92.5).
No. 2 seeded Curley finished fourth at 165 pounds with a 4-2 record, who recorded two major decisions.
Also finishing in the top-five in their respective weight class was junior no. 7 seeded Jerry Knapp (Olmstead Falls, Ohio / Olmstead Falls) who placed fifth at 285 pounds with two falls, a forfeit, and a major decision. Knapp finished with a 4-2 record.
Rounding out the placers for the Berg was junior Dayne Williams (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) with a seventh-place finish at 174 pounds, while defeating no. 6 seeded Frank Savegnago from Elmhurst College. Williams picked up a forfeit and a major decision, while going 5-2.
Next up for the Berg is a home match against the University of Mount Union on Tuesday (Feb. 1) at Seiberling Gymnasium starting at 7:30 p.m. Heidelberg is currently 2-0 at home.
