Berea, Ohio – February 8, 2011 – Heidelberg University and Baldwin-Wallace College each strung together victories in an Ohio Athletic Conference wrestling dual in Berea, Ohio this evening, but in the end the Yellow Jackets posted a 23-22 victory. The win improved B-W to 11-7 overall and 4-0 in the OAC, while the Berg falls to 9-8-2 and 2-1 versus league foes.
Baldwin-Wallace opened up to an 8-0 lead after two bouts, but the tide turned when Chris Osborne (McComb, Ohio / McComb) took the mat in his first OAC match of his collegiate career. The newcomer posted a 9-5 decision at 141 pounds to start a string of four straight ’Berg victories.
Following Osborne was Andrew Johnson (Weston, Ohio / Ostego) with a fall in 2:29 at 149 pounds. Jason Barnett (Westerville, Ohio / DeSales) earned a forfeit at 157 pounds, while nationally ranked Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) registered a 10-2 major decision in the 165 pound bout. With five bouts remaining Heidelberg held a 19-8 advantage.
A third string of victories began on the night started with a B-W fall at 174 pounds. The host Yellow Jackets strung together three wins, led by two pins to pull ahead 23-19 with one weight class remaining.
Heidelberg’s Jerry Knapp (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) produced a hard fought 9-8 decision at 285 pounds, but it was not enough as B-W posted a 23-22 win.
