University Heights, Ohio - February 18, 2011 - The Heidelberg University wrestling team closed out its Ohio Athletic Conference schedule with a 21-12 setback to John Carroll University at the DeCarlo Varsity Center in University Heights, Ohio. The setback drops Heidelberg to 9-11-2 overall and 2-4 in the OAC, while JCU improves to 6-6, 3-3.
John Carroll opened up to a 9-0 lead after three decisions in the first three bouts of the evening. Andrew Johnson (Weston, Ohio / Ostego) got the Berg on the board with a 4-3 decision at 149 pounds.
Johnson started a streak of three straight Heidelberg victories. Posting a 10-4 decision at 157 was Jason Barnett (Westerville, Ohio / DeSales) and Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) followed with a 9-3 decision at 165 pounds.
After JCU victories at 174 and 184, Jason Russell (Columbus, Ohio / West) closed out the scoring for Heidelberg with an 8-7 decision at 197.
Heidelberg has a week off before it defends its five consecutive OAC Tournament titles on Feb. 26. Ohio Northern University is the host school for the league tournament.
