Nine Place at ONU Invitational

Ada, Ohio – December 4, 2010 – The Heidelberg University wrestling team had a large portion of its roster see mat time at the annual Ohio Northern Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.

Overall, the Berg grapplers combined to put together four teams. Heidelberg one finished in a tie for seventh with 69.5 points followed by two in 13th with 41.5 points, three stood 20th with 22 points and four was 22nd with 10.5 points.

In the end, nine placed led by senior Matt Curley’s (Lakewood, Ohio / Brecksville) third at 174 pounds. Wrestling up a weight class, Curley went 5-1 on the day which began with a fall in 5:26. He posted a 12-3 win over Josh Ashbrook of Campbellsville in his third place bout.  

Patrick Rigsby (Dublin, Ohio / St. Charles) finished fifth at 184 pounds. He had three decisions on the day en route to a 3-2 mark.

Joining Curley as a placer in the 174 pound weight class was Dayne Williams (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian). Williams had two decisions on the day en route to sixth place.

Also taking home sixth place was Richie Urias (Toledo, Ohio / Clay) (125), Jason Barnett (Westerville, Ohio / DeSales) (165) and Andy Lovins (Clinton Township, Mich. / Lake Shore) (197). Lovins lost his first bout, but answered with a fall in 2:16 followed by three decisions. Urias had a major decision and a decision on the day, while Barnett registered two decisions.

At 149 pounds Andrew Johnson (Weston, Ohio / Otsego) dropped his first bout, but came back with three falls, including one in 1:03 for a seventh place finish. He took home the honor of the most falls at the invitational and his three took a combined 4:27.

Joining Johnson in seventh place was 285 pounder Jerry Knapp (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls). Knapp’s path to the seventh place match included three decisions.

Providing depth in the 184 pound class was Jeremiah Howe (Galion, Ohio / Northmor) with an eighth place finish.
