FT. LAUDERDALE—Sophomore 125-pounder Delian Schneider (Tiffin/Columbian) wrestled to a fourth-place finish to highlight the Heidelberg University wrestling team’s 11th-place showing over the two-day Citrus Open in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The Student Princes tallied 52 points among the 17-team field.
Schneider posted major decisions in his first two matches before suffering a pin in the third round. He then took two consecutive decisions and another major decision in the consolation bracket before losing an 8-7 decision in the third-place match.
Also recording multiple victories at the tournament were senior 125-pounder Jake Weisman (Bexley), sophomore 141-pounder Chris Osborne (McComb), sophomore 165-pounder Jake Cochran (West Jefferson), freshman heavyweight Tyler Smith (Calhoun/Sonoraville) and senior heavyweight Jerry Knapp (Columbia Station/Olmsted Falls).
Following their return to Tiffin, the Student Princes will open Ohio Athletic Conference action by hosting John Carroll University on Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
