Danville, Ky. – September 5, 2009 – The Heidelberg University women’s soccer team lost their season opener to Transylvania University 3-0 at the Centre College Tournament. The Berg starts the season 0-1 while the Pioneers improve to 1-1 on the year.
Despite Heidelberg’s goal keeper Lauren Sweeny’s (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) stellar performance with 22 saves, the Pioneers managed to score. Transylvania’s Ashley Cobane, with an assist from Casey Price, was the first player to place the ball in the back of the net in the 20th minute when she went one-on-one with Sweeney.
Pioneer’s Casey Price and Katie Kelly also directed a shot for a score in the 73rd and 80th minute, respectively.
Offensively for the Student Princes, Carolyn Gross (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville), Katharine Ward (Traverse City, Mich. / Traverse City West), Kristen Schneider (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mount Notre Dame), and Emily Mack (Shiloh, Ohio / Crestview) each had a shot on goal in the game.
The Berg will look to rebound in the Centre College Tournament and face Centre College, Sunday, September 6 at 2:00 p.m.
