Game Ends in a Tie for 'Berg

Tiffin, Ohio – September 13, 2009 – The Heidelberg University women’s soccer team tied with Alma College today at Mayer Field. The Berg stands with a 0-3-1 record while the Scots go to 1-2-1 on the year.

Alma took the lead in the first half when Kelley Walsh connected with Jessica Swan who then ran past Heidelberg’s Lauren Sweeney (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) and placed the ball low in the left corner of the net in the 30th minute. The Berg responded in the second half when Krista Blake (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) scored a goal in the far post in the 52nd minute making the game 1-1. This gave Blake her first goal in her collegiate career.

Heidelberg took the lead in the 70th minute when Katie Klein (Milford, Ohio / Milford) placed a free kick from 25 yards out and hooked up with Shara Perry (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Davidson) as she scored with a header to make the count 2-1, in favor of the Student Princes. The goal was Perry’s first as a collegiate athlete.

The Scots countered in the 75th minute when Carly Reising crossed the ball from a corner kick and linked with Jessica Swan who snuck it pass Heidelberg’s goal keeper Sweeney to make the score 2-2.

With 10 combined shots in the two overtimes, neither team could find the back of the net which resulted in a 2-2 tie.

Krista Blake led the Berg with four shots and two shots on goal. Also contributing was Shara Perry with three shots and two shots on goal. Heidelberg’s goal keeper Lauren Sweeney had five saves on the day.

The Berg looks for their first win as they host La Roche College, Tuesday September 15, at 6:30 p.m.
